The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has a funding opportunity on strengthening the resilience of the UK food system.

The UK’s just-in-time global food system, where food is produced, processed, distributed, and consumed as it is needed, is highly efficient but prone to shocks with the potential to undermine national food security. This funding opportunity aims to improve the resilience of the UK food system to a variety of potentially cascading risks, including but not limited to:

  • further pandemics
  • climate change and extreme weather
  • food safety
  • pests and diseases
  • trade and geopolitics
  • labour shortages
  • food price spikes
  • civil unrest

Applications are invited for collaborative, interdisciplinary projects.

The funding is available for projects of three year duration and up to £1.75 million FEC. The deadline for applications is 19 March 2024.
