Testing gaseous ozone aerosol disinfection in food manufacturing

Machinery in food manufacturing environment

Within food manufacturing facilities aerosolised microorganisms can cause product and surface contamination, having both food safety and food spoilage implications.
Aerosolisation of microorganisms can occur through preparation of food, cleaning practices and air flow.

A Food Safety Research Network funded project is working to demonstrate the efficacy of gaseous ozone against these aerosolised microorganisms.

Cardiff Metropolitan University, together with Food Centre Wales and Ozone Industries Ltd are working to test the efficacy of ozone treatment in a controlled environmental laboratory and in field trials.
