Freeze with ease: developing a home guide to safely reduce food waste

Freezing food can save money by extending shelf life, but improper storage or thawing can lead to contamination and foodborne illnesses.

Many people engage in risky food-handling practices out of a desire to cut waste and save money, often due to a lack of knowledge about safe food hygiene, particularly in cooling and freezing methods.

This project aims to develop a comprehensive and accessible “Freeze with Ease” digital guide focused on safe food storage, particularly around freezing and reducing waste.

The project led by the University of Birmingham brings together Kate Hall, The Home Cooking Consultant and LABS Innovation Limited and Birmingham City Council.
