People aged over 65 years are most frequently affected by foodborne illness in Scotland. Previous research has identified specific physiological and pharmacological conditions that contribute to increased susceptibility.
Cardiff Metropolitan University together with Ohio State University and Food Standards Scotland are working to develop a toolkit of resources to safeguard vulnerable older adults from foodborne illness, funded by the UK Food Safety Research Network (UKFSRN).
The project will distribute the FSS-branded campaign package to 100 individuals aged 65 and over via post.
The packages will include information around food safety along with sharing food safety equipment packages such as temperature probes and refrigerator thermometer.
Participants will complete an online questionnaire assessing acceptability and feasibility, providing an evidence base to potentially upscale the campaign
