The Food Standards Agency (FSA) Chair, Susan Jebb, the Chief Executive, Emily Miles and the Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Robin May, are inviting applications to join their independent Science Council, Scientific Advisory Committees (SACs) and Joint Expert Groups .

SAC members provide independent expert assessment and advice on microbiological, chemical and other risks in food and feed, and in new food and feed products, additives, processes and packaging.

Science Council members provide high-level, expert strategic insight, challenge and advice to the FSA’s Chief Scientific Adviser and to the Board and executive of the FSA on the FSA’s use of science to deliver FSA objectives.

The Food Standards Authority are looking for expertise in a wide range of fields including microbiology, clinical allergy, toxicology, manufacturing, and several others. To find out more, and to see all advertised positions please see their recruitment page.

This year we also have lay member positions open; these are non-technical experts who act as a critical friend, contribute experience from outside the professional membership, or provide an external non-expert perspective to the decision-making process.

The overall time commitment will depend on the extent of members’ participation in the groups’ meetings and FSA’s strategic needs, but a minimum commitment is expected to be around 15 days a year, including attendance at four meetings.

We would be grateful if you could share these opportunities with your colleagues and networks.
